Bad Lemon

Once again I have been a little lackadaisical about blogging.

The last time I checked in it was an hour before puck drop for what turned out to be the Capitals final game of the playoffs. I along with all of our fans was a little disappointed. I don’t really blame anyone, sometimes no matter how hard you try you just won’t win. And if you don’t believe me maybe you should check out a little book by Dr. Suess telling tales of bang-ups and hang-ups and moving mountains.

It has been about a week and a half and aside from getting past the loss I actually have done a few other things. (Although this writing blog post has been interrupted a couple of times over the last few days).

I went to Boston and was part of a panel on crossing over between traditional and social media at the Social Media and Community 2.0 Strategies conference. Do a twitter search for #socialc20. I always think I suck at those sort of speaking engagements. The other people on the panel were from marketing or journalism backgrounds and here I am, a tech-geek by nature, typically kept away from interacting with anything other than a keyboard, stumbling through a discourse on the practices that the Capitals put in play in regards to social media. I am sure it was scintillating for audience (please read with an abundance of sacasm). The funny thing is as hard as I am on myself about these things I keep getting asked to speak about what we are doing so I guess I am doing something right.

Back at the end of March I had won an iPad by tweeting about Zinio and a contest they were running. So I have been trying to see how productive I can be with the King Komg sized iPod touch. Turns out you actually can be. I have edited a couple of files for work and successfully brought them back to the desktop. There are definitely some challenges that need to be fixed/overcome/eliminated with the transfer process. One of the issues was iWork.com. I tried out Apple’s service for file sharing and commenting on iWork files. From the desktop it is easy enough to send a file to iWork.com from the iPad not so much. I did end up buying a keyboard for home, eventually I might carry it around. Typing on screen for long periods of time is not as easy as it may seem. Some of the typical complaints I had read about did surface. Mainly it was the lack of fonts other than the default fonts that ship with Pages (that was the part of the iWork suite I purchased). I was aware of these complaints going in so I only had myself to be upset with if I found the product unusable, which I didn’t. There are some quirky things that are very un-Apple like. For instance when typing in horizontal mode the Pages toolbar disappears and will only come back whenthe iPad is turned vertically. Also the ruler slipped under the toolbar without an obvious way to get it back. I finally shut down the app and reopened the doc. I am sure this was not the intended way to retrieve the ruler.

I was going to write a bunch of stuff about Zombiefarm and this, that and the other but I think I will just get this published and comeback later. I got a ton of work to do and rambling on about nothingness isn’t helping me get it done.
